Pricing
How Pricing Actually Works
PayStrm runs two pricing models, matched to how your business actually processes. Whichever one applies to you, the rate is set at signup, it's in writing, and it doesn't move without a call first.
Interchange-Plus
Most CommonEvery card transaction carries a wholesale cost set by the card networks (Visa, Mastercard, and the rest) called interchange. It's the same for every processor on earth. On top of that cost, PayStrm adds a fixed markup, and you see both pieces separately on your statement, not bundled into one unexplained rate.
Unlike processors that price off a fixed volume tier, PayStrm doesn't lock your rate to a bracket. Your markup and per-transaction fee are matched to your actual business, which means a small local business can get a meaningfully lower rate than a tiered model would ever offer it.
A Worked Example
On a $100.00 Visa Purchase, You Keep $97.99
- Interchange (this example)
- 1.51% + $0.10 = $1.61
- PayStrm markup
- 0.30% + $0.10 = $0.40
- Total effective rate
- 2.01%
Illustrative example only, using a standard Visa consumer credit card's published interchange rate. Interchange is set by the card networks, not PayStrm, and the actual rate on any given transaction depends on the card type. Your own markup is fixed and set in writing at signup, regardless of which card a customer hands you.
Flexible Surcharge
Offset Your CostCustomers see a disclosed surcharge on card payments, and you keep more of every transaction without raising your prices.
- Customer surcharge
- 3.0%
- Merchant fee
- 0.5%, no per-transaction fee
Debit Cards (Charged to the Merchant, Never the Customer)
Debit cards can't legally be surcharged to the customer, so debit costs are charged to you instead.
- Regulated debit
- 0.85% + $0.25/transaction
- Non-regulated debit
- 1.75% + $0.20/transaction
- Non-regulated commercial debit
- 2.75% + $0.20/transaction
The One Flat Fee
The One Flat Fee Every Account Has
Every account carries a flat $20/month fee, whichever pricing model applies to you.
It covers the real account-level costs our banking partner charges us to keep your account funded and running. We pass it through directly instead of quietly folding it into your rate.
Beyond that, here's everything that's $0.
Beyond the $20
Everything Else Is $0
- $0 setup fee
- $0 monthly PCI fee*
- $0 customer service fees
- $0 application fee
- $0 deposit fees
- $0 quarterly fees
- $0 cancellation fees
- $0 batch or auth fees
* The $0 PCI fee holds as long as your PCI/DSS compliance questionnaire is validated within 90 days of signing up, and once a year after that. If it lapses, the fee becomes $74.99/month until compliance is validated again.
Locked In Writing
Why "Locked in Writing" Actually Means Something
A verbal promise about pricing is easy to give and easy to walk back. PayStrm puts the actual markup in your setup agreement, in writing, at signup. If anything about your pricing ever needs to change, the change is explained and communicated before it shows up on a statement, not buried inside one.
